BEST Skills Academy is a private non-profit organization serving students in grades 6-12 in Greenville County. Here at BEST, we work with the parents and students to ensure that every child has their educational needs met, while at the same time implementing interpersonal skills. Students will leave BEST ready to pursue their next steps, whether they pursue vocations or higher education. We will work with your students, so they are successful in whatever path they choose, while at the same time preparing them for life with lessons on things such as interactions on social media or investing in the stock market. Our goal is to work with the parents and students so that when your child graduates, they are ready for whatever life may throw at them.
Marquis Flemings, Executive Director
Marquis has been an educator for more than 17 years. His compassion and expertise are what drive him to serve the community and help students succeed both in and out of the classroom. His experience at the Miracle Hill boys shelter, as a school administrator and a special education teacher, brings together his unique approach to learning. This was what motivated Marquis to create BEST Skills Academy and what sets it apart from the traditional educational and mentor programs.
Marquis is currently pursuing his doctorate in Special Education and School Leadership. His interests include physical fitness and outdoor activities, mentoring kids, painting, and spending time with his wife and son. He is actively involved in his community mentoring children ages 12-24.
Robert McKenzie Jr., Mentoring Program Director,
Robert began his military career in the Marine Corps in 2000. During his seven years of service, he was deployed to Iraq for a year. Through this unique life experience, along with his pursuit of education and his life beyond the military, Robert has seen firsthand the benefit and necessity of mentoring. He is committed to mentoring as a crucial part of the educational development of youth in our community. This interest in mentoring led him to complete his Master’s degree in Psychology.
Robert’s interests include physical fitness and outdoor activities, logic puzzles, and spending time with his wife and 2 daughters. He is actively involved in his church, volunteering in several youth ministries mentoring children and adults from ages 12-29.
Students come for education and life skills, they leave as responsible and productive citizens of the world.
